What is a postmodernist film?

How is the Lego movie a postmodernist film? The Lego movie is a postmodernism film because it jokes about society, an example of this is when emmet goes into the coffee shop and asks for some over priced coffee. Another example of It being a postmodernism film is it makes the audience aware they are watching a movie due to the imagination of the film.

Synergy - the cooperation of two or more companies, for example in the Lego movie the companies LEGO and Warner Bros worked tighter to make the film.

The Lego movie used synergy to promote their film , Lego fans all over the world would love to see the film, and because the film is made by Warner Bros who are a trusted good film company people would expect and trust that it would be a good film.

A film company would want to release a tie in game to make more money and for promotion for example the Lego movie game not only made money but promoted the film for those who enjoyed the game, not only that but those who enjoyed the film may want to buy the game. This not only promotes their products but makes them more money.

Lego movie homework week 4

Uses and Gratification Theory Balmer and Katz

1. Entertainment offers distraction from the world because it is set in a fantasy world

2. Personal Identity helps us find who we are and what values and ideas we identify with. In the cover emmet is surrounded by the people that he meets.

3. Relationships - we find things we can share and and discuss with others

4. Information - New information we want to know or take pleasure in knowing. On the lego movie poster they hide a lot of background information by jumbling all these characters into the front cover hiding this for the watchers to find out.

Analyse how the uses and gratifications of the lego movie video game are reflected in the cover?

The LEGO movie video game is set in a fantasy world and is an escape route from reality.

The themes and messages in the video game, such as exploring who we are may help us to identify who we are.

With the LEGO video game we have something to talk about with others which could create new relationships because of common interests, or could help existing relationships by living them something to connect to and talk about to others

There is new information in the game which isn't in the film giving people who have already seen the film and are playing the game something to discover. It also makes those who have played through the game want to go and see the film to look at simmilarities and differences of the game and film,

Week 5 homework

The main image of the Lego movie poster appeals to the target audience, all of the characters in the poster are recognizable by children and adults, adults may feel nostalgia as they may have grown up playing with them. Children may recognize characters they currently play with and young adult cinema goers may recognize characters from other films like batman and wonder woman.

The setting of the main image looks action packed, the explosion in the back connotes to fighting and action. The fact they are running away suggests that they could be in danger, making people want to watch the film to uncover the mystery of what that danger is.

The tagline could suggest key themes in the play, the story of a nobody who saved everybody shows a key theme, people could relate to this tagline.

Week 6 Homework

A successful media campaign exploits a variety of different media platforms. For example the lego movie was a huge success, they also made a game, which created more money and was a success, by using these media platforms they made more money and they promoted each other (synergy) they also promoted other products, like buying lego to play with or buying another Lego video game to enjoy, all these products promote each other and make more money which is what a  media campaign needs to become successful.
