Media Institutions and Audiences

L/O: To apply the theatrical framework to media texts.

Institutions

who makes what and whom. The owners, companies and people to produce, distribute and govern media.

Disney

Disney own...

Movies
Music, Games and Apps
Studios, such as music/movie studios
Other companies, such as Marvel/Lucas film
Theme parks and Resorts
They own companies around the world

Why do big media companies with lots of different divisions have an advantage over smaller companies who don't?
Because they own a lot more business and studios therefore being able to produce and publish a lot more film and music etc however a small company can only produce one thing making a lot harder to make a profit and get noticed. Big conglomerates like Disney have all types of media like movies music games etc however small companies may only have a single type of media like movies therefore the bigger companies own more having a massive advantage over the small companies. And because they own a lot of media it means they get a lot more profit.

Why is it  important to know who owns the media we consume?
Because people want a reliable source, Disney for example as they are big and have a big reputation and people know that the films they make are mainly good. They want a reliable source and not a small movie company that could have bad movies and is a waste of money. This also links back to why big companies have an advantage over small companies.

Media Audiences

The people who, watch, read, listen to and interact with the media can be defined by:
Gender
Age
Interests
Lifestyle
Location/Nationality
Class
Ethnicity
Sexuality
Job/Income

Demographic: Factual information.
Psychographics: Lifestyle, Behaviour and attitude.

I think the target audience for this film is 16-40 year old males. I think male as there is 3 male characters on the poster. It seems like a funny movie with possibly bad language and adult jokes, as its called the hangover. Therefore may be too inappropriate for people under 16.

Tv poster aimed at a teen audience...
I think friends because it is appropriate and funny and is very popular. Age range
14+

A film poster aimed at male adult audiences...
The film has a lot of fighting and action therefore attracting a male audience. Age range 18-50.

.

A game cover aimed at female adult audiences...
I think this game is aimed at both but more women because the main character is female. Age range 18-40.
